SUPER DUTY DANA 60 AXLE TRUSS PREPARATION

SUPER DUTY DANA 60 AXLE TRUSS PREPARATION

Guest Post by Evan McPartland

It seems every year the bar gets set higher for Jeep modifications. In the past 33" tires would be an upgrade, where today that's a factory option. With the advent of one ton axle swaps becoming more popular and 40"+ tires becoming the norm, we wanted to facilitate the one ton install as much as possible. So we now offer instructions with 3D models on how to modify any Super Duty Dana 60 from an 05+ Ford Super Duty pickup truck to work with any Motobilt Super Duty Dana 60 truss.

This additional set of instructions will show the brackets highlighted in red that will need to be removed and how to modify the casting. Each step has multiple views to show you what the axle should look like before and after.

  • Per Evan: Thanks for the feedback. So just like you said, the MB4072 hydro mount truss was designed so that you can use a straight edge to align the edge of the truss to the gasket face of the differential cover. Doing this will make sure your tie rods are in alignment coming off your steering ram, and won’t contact the truss.

  • Super cool post. Thanks for sharing.

When using your super duty truss and hydro mount, do you recommend mounting truss in alignment of the diff face? In other words, if you lined a straight edge on the gasket surface (cover removed) would you want the front/top of the truss to touch it? Or do you set your pinion angle and caster, then make the top level. I’m concerned with the hydro mount lining up properly if jigged on an incorrect truss. Thanks.
