Double triangulated 4-link suspension mounting system for Jeep YJ, TJ, and LJ designed to remove the guesswork from suspension geometry and provide a smooth, serviceable underbelly.

One of the hardest parts of building a double triangulated 4-link suspension is determining exactly where to place all the mounting points to get good articulation and the right vertical separation. The Motobilt MB7009 system was built to take that guesswork out. It fits the 1987–1995 Jeep YJ, 1997–2006 Jeep TJ, and 2004–2006 Jeep LJ, and is designed to make it easier to tie into 1-ton axles, clear oil pans, aftermarket engines, aftermarket transfer cases, and driveshafts, while allowing you to build straight upper and lower links without bends. 

This system was also designed around serviceability. The one-piece heavy-duty steel skid plate is removable and precision fit around the front and rear crossmembers. All skid plate fasteners are countersunk for a true smooth bottom with no hang-up points, and the skid includes weep holes for drainage. Once the skid plate is removed, the front heavy-duty transmission crossmember and the X-shaped tubular cross bracing can also be removed to provide full access to the transmission and aftermarket transfer case. 

Motobilt also addressed a common service issue with front lower links. When the front transmission crossmember needs to come out, most systems require disconnecting the front lower links, which means the vehicle can no longer be moved. This system includes extra brackets that temporarily bolt into place so the front lower links remain attached while the crossmember is removed. That means the vehicle can still be rolled around the shop during maintenance. 

All link mounting points use 5/8 inch holes through 1/4 inch thick steel plates, with a 2-5/8 inch inside mounting width that works with a wide range of common joints and high-misalignment spacers. The front and rear upper link brackets are also cut to closely match the factory frame profile so the fit stays tight and the connection stays strong. The underside of the system sits at the same height as the factory skid, so there is no loss of ground clearance.

Important Information

• Fits 1987–1995 Jeep YJ, 1997–2006 Jeep TJ, and 2004–2006 Jeep LJ. 

• Full hydraulic steering is required if running the front as a 4-link. 

• If using a steering box, remove one upper link and install a track bar. 

• You do not have to remove the body to install. 

• Depending on drivetrain and axle choices, a two-piece front driveshaft may be required. 

• If using rebuildable or cartridge-style suspension joints, the upper brackets will need to be trimmed for joint body clearance. 

• Exhaust routing will need to be planned around the upper links, especially on the driveshaft side.

Notes

• Wheelbase is determined by how long you build the front and rear suspension links, so the system can be used to stretch wheelbase. 

• If installing a new engine or building engine mounts, Motobilt recommends doing that after the suspension is installed so the exhaust can be aligned where you want it.
