Rocker Guard Installation for Jeep TJ/LJ

Adding rocker guards to your Jeep TJ or LJ is an essential upgrade for off-road enthusiasts looking to protect their vehicle's body from trail damage. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions to help you install your Motobilt rocker guards with confidence. Whether you're a seasoned DIYer or a first-time installer, following these steps will ensure a secure and proper fit. Let’s dive in!

Step 1 - Loosen the body bolts on the side you are working on first and use a jack to lift the body on that side only.

Step 2 - Slide the rocker between the body and the top of the body mount.

Step 3 - Align the side of the rocker with the body panels and the top of the door entrance.  Be sure to keep the rocker square against the body. Lower the body down on to the rocker and mounts.

Step 4 - Mark the holes on the body and center punch. Next you can drill a pilot hole then move up to a 3/8" bit. Bolts, washers and nuts will pass through the rocker and bolt it down.  If you drill a hole and cannot access the back with a nut or tool this is where you would install a nut sert. The rocker will need to be removed to install the nut sert which requires a 17/32" bit to drill the hole that needs nut serts.  I suggest tapping the nut serts to clean the threads after install if the bolt is difficult to thread into the rocker at all.

Step 5 - Assuming the rocker is already painted then install all of the bolts into the body and retighten the body mount bolts and move onto the other side.
