21 gallon Jeep JL relocation fuel tank moves the tank behind the rear axle for 4-link suspension, long arm clearance, and axle swap packaging.

Once you start pushing a Jeep JL farther with a custom rear suspension, the factory fuel tank becomes a packaging problem. The stock tank sits in the center of the chassis where builders need room for long arms, rear axle upgrades, and triangulated 4-link suspension layouts. That factory tank location limits link geometry, axle choices, and overall suspension packaging.

The Motobilt relocation fuel tank for Jeep JL and JLU moves the tank from the center of the vehicle to behind the rear axle to free up critical space under the chassis. That extra room opens the door for more suspension options as your build moves into custom 4-link suspensions, long arm kits, and rear axle swaps. With the tank relocated behind the axle, builders can package a Ford Super Duty rear axle to match a Super Duty 60 front axle swap and create the clearance needed for a triangulated 4-link rear suspension with increased articulation.

This Jeep JL relocation fuel tank is designed as a complete bolt-in system that uses existing factory holes in the frame, so no drilling or cutting is required for installation. It is built around the factory fuel pump and includes the necessary fuel lines, fittings, and EVAP modification components to work with the factory fuel and emissions systems.

The tank itself is an all-aluminum 21 gallon fuel cell made from 1/8 inch aluminum sheet that is CNC laser cut, press brake formed, and TIG welded. It is protected by a heavy-duty 3/16 inch steel skid that mounts to the stock JL frame, with steel hold-down straps securing the tank to the skid. Like other Motobilt components, this system was designed by builders who understand real suspension packaging, chassis layout, and what it takes to make room for serious off-road upgrades on a Jeep JL.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a relocation fuel tank do on a Jeep JL?

A relocation fuel tank moves the tank out of the center chassis area to free up room for suspension links, axle packaging, and other fabrication work. On a Jeep JL, this is especially useful when building a custom rear suspension or long arm setup.

Why relocate the fuel tank for a Jeep JL 4-link suspension?

A triangulated 4-link needs usable space in the center of the chassis for proper link placement and suspension geometry. Moving the tank behind the rear axle creates the room needed for better link packaging and increased rear axle articulation.

Does this Jeep JL fuel tank require cutting or drilling?

No. This tank is designed to bolt into existing holes in the factory frame, so no drilling or cutting is required for installation.

Will this tank work with the factory fuel and EVAP systems?

Yes. The tank is designed to use the factory fuel pump and includes the fuel lines, fittings, and EVAP modification parts needed to adapt it to the factory systems.

Do I need to remove the factory rear sway bar?

Yes. The factory rear sway bar must be removed to run this tank. The RockJock 4x4 Antirock rear sway bar is a compatible alternative.
