The Motobilt Rockwell 2.5 Ton Axle Diff Cover Skid is designed to take abuse.  The cover is laser cut and formed from a combination os 3/8” and 1/4” high strength steel plate.  The curved 3/8” steel ring around the bottom of the ring gear is “bump bent” on the press brake to provide a smooth surface to slide over obstacles like rock and mud.  The side caps over the carrier bolts are laser cut and CNC formed from 1/4” steel plate.  The main ring that welds to the housing is laser cut from 3/8” steel plate.  The cover ships welded inside and out to your door bare steel. 

Installing the diff skid is straight forward.  Remove the center diff from the Rockwell housing and then cut the bottom rounded dome off.  Position the diff back in and rotate the axle so you can see where to place the diff cover / skid.  Tack in place and then remove the 3rd member from the housing.  Weld completely. The ring gear does not need to be machined down for the cover to fit onto the Rockwell 2.5 ton axle housing. 

The Motobilt Rockwell 2.5 Ton Axle Diff Cover / Skid does not include a drain plug.  Our thought is this is a failure point when rock crawling.  We do offer an optional bung and plug that the installer can drill out the cover and install if needed.
