The factory rear bumper on the Jeep JL and JLU limits departure angle and does not provide much protection around the rear corners. Once larger tires are added and the Jeep is used off road, the rear of the vehicle becomes more exposed and more likely to contact obstacles.
At the same time, many high-clearance bumpers require removing the spare tire or modifying the rear of the Jeep to gain clearance, which creates compromises in how the vehicle is set up.
The Motobilt Crusher rear bumper for the JL was designed to solve both problems by providing increased clearance while still working with a rear-mounted spare tire. The design keeps the bumper tight to the body and improves departure angle without requiring cutting or drilling during installation.
This bumper is built from 3/16 inch laser cut steel plate and includes 3/4 inch D ring mounts that pass through the bumper and are welded on both sides for strength. The design wraps around the rear corners of the Jeep to provide additional body protection while maintaining a clean profile.
It is designed to work with the factory receiver hitch and includes provisions for relocating factory backup sensors directly into the bumper. For Jeeps that are not equipped with proximity sensors, blank inserts are included to keep the bumper clean.
The bumper also allows clearance for up to a 40 inch spare tire when used with an adjustable tire carrier such as the MB1089, which can be positioned up to 2 5/16 inches higher than the factory location.
This is a bolt-on rear bumper designed for builders who want improved clearance, protection, and functionality without modifying the factory frame.
