Frame chop front bumpers are nothing new in the off-road world, but builders still run into the same problem. Most bumpers do not go far enough when the goal is real clearance, a better approach angle, and a front end layout that actually works in rock crawling conditions. The Tomahawk Front Winch Bumper was built to push past that limitation with a true frame chop design based on concepts developed from the Motobilt TJ Front Half Frame Kit.
This bumper uses an upswept profile to gain more front-end clearance and improve approach angle compared to traditional bumper designs and many other frame chop bumpers. It also includes an integrated winch mount and a second opening on the underside of the bumper that lets you route the winch line straight down. That gives builders a way to suck down the front suspension, lower the center of gravity, and help the vehicle stay more controlled on steep climbs. That concept has been used in competitive rock crawling for years because it works.
The Motobilt Tomahawk Front Winch Bumper fits Jeep Wrangler JK, JKU, JL, JLU, and Jeep JT Gladiator applications, covering 2007 through current model years where listed. It is designed for builders willing to cut, drill, and permanently modify the frame for better packaging and performance. Slight clearance of the two forwardmost body mounts is required before installation, and 2012-2018 Jeep JK / JKU models also require a vacuum pump relocation bracket. This product ships as bare steel so it can be finished to match the build, and for an even stronger connection it can also be welded to the factory frame.

What makes the Tomahawk bumper different from a standard Jeep frame chop bumper?
The Tomahawk uses a high-clearance upswept design and was developed from front-half chassis concepts used in more advanced builds. It is built for better approach angle, more front-end clearance, and improved winch packaging than a typical bumper.
Can I route the winch line straight down through this bumper?
Yes. The bumper includes a second opening on the underside that allows the winch line to be routed directly downward. Builders use this setup to suck down the front suspension and lower the vehicle’s center of gravity on steep obstacles.
What winches fit the Tomahawk Front Winch Bumper?
The bumper uses a 10 inch by 4.5 inch winch mounting pattern and is designed to accept a wide range of winches. It fits the full Warn Zeon and EVO lines up to the Warn Zeon 12-S Platinum. It does not fit the Warn MB8274 or CTI models, and offset winches are not recommended.
What fairleads work with this bumper?
The fairlead mounting pattern measures 10 inches center to center, which works with most Hawse fairleads. Roller fairleads are not recommended for this application.
Will my factory sway bar work with this bumper?
On JK / JKU models, the factory sway bar can be reused, but the Rubicon electronic disconnect sway bar is not compatible. On JL / JLU / JT models, the factory sway bar can be modified to fit, but the Rubicon electronic disconnect sway bar is still not compatible. Currie Antirock and other RockJock sway bar options are also supported.
