Setting the Stage: Frame Modifications by Rockstar Garage
Rockstar Garage began the project with one of the most ambitious modifications: overhauling the Jeep’s frame. At the core of this transformation was the Motobilt back-half frame kit, a precision-engineered solution for enhancing strength and enabling suspension upgrades.
- Strategic Frame Cutting: Rockstar Garage carefully sectioned the frame for a manageable installation process. Their attention to detail ensured clean cuts and precise alignments.
- Foundation for Suspension Upgrades: The Motobilt frame kit provided the framework for advanced suspension components, allowing Rockstar Garage to integrate coilovers and bypass shocks seamlessly.
Unlocking Suspension Potential with Motobilt
Motobilt’s back-half frame kit is designed with performance in mind, and Rockstar Garage fully leveraged its features to optimize the Jeep’s suspension.
- Increased Clearance: The inward-tapering design of the Motobilt frame created ample space for outboard suspension components, improving articulation and eliminating clearance issues.
- Durability and Rigidity: Rockstar Garage’s installation highlighted the strength of Motobilt’s components, ensuring the frame could endure the demands of intense off-road use.
Precision Engineering: Front and Rear Crossmembers
Motobilt’s front and rear crossmembers played a critical role in the build’s structural integrity and functionality.
- Front Crossmember: The Rockstar Garage team replaced the stock crossmember with a Motobilt design that bolted securely to the frame, providing lower and upper triangulated suspension mounts.
- Rear Crossmember: This component served dual purposes—reinforcing the frame and providing upper and lower double triangulated link mounts. Its high-clearance design, expertly installed by Rockstar Garage, maximized ground clearance and off-road capability.
Skid Plate Installation: Rockstar Garage's Expert Touch
One of the highlights of the build was the addition of a Motobilt skid plate, tying together the front and rear frame sections while offering robust underbody protection.
- Precision Fitment: Installing the skid plate with care provided a perfect alignment with the frame and crossmembers. Rockstar Garage’s methodical approach ensured the skid plate delivered both protection and a ultra smooth surface to slide over obstacles.
Overcoming Challenges with Rockstar Expertise
Despite the thoughtful design of Motobilt parts, every build has unique challenges. Rockstar Garage tackled these with ingenuity and skill:
- Powder-Coated Parts: Some Motobilt components had been sent out for powdercoating before installation, thus requiring Rockstar Garage to prepare the surfaces for welding. They used a heat torch and wire-wheel technique to achieve a clean finish.
- Alignment Without Fixtures: Rockstar Garage demonstrated exceptional craftsmanship in aligning and fitting frame components, ensuring a flawless assembly.
Final Results and Next Steps
The collaboration between Motobilt and Rockstar Garage culminated in a beautifully crafted, trail-ready frame and suspension system. With the foundation set, the build will progress to installing a custom roll cage, with landing brackets that integrate seamlessly with the Motobilt-enhanced frame.
