Once you start using a Jeep YJ on tight trails, the rocker panels take a beating. Sliding over rocks and ledges puts constant pressure on the area below the doors, and the factory sheet metal does not hold up to repeated hits. At the same time, getting in and out of a lifted YJ becomes less convenient, especially on builds running larger tires and stretched setups.
The Motobilt Hatchet Rocker Armor with Step is built to solve both problems. It reinforces the rocker area with full-length 3/16 inch steel while adding a functional step that makes entry and exit easier without dropping too low under the body. This is important on a Jeep YJ where ground clearance still matters, especially when working through rocks and uneven terrain.
Designed to integrate with Hatchet 2 inch stretch corner guards, this rocker armor fits into a larger high-clearance body system. It protects the section between the wheel wells where most trail damage occurs while maintaining a clean body line. The step is built from DOM tubing and positioned to stay usable without becoming a snag point on obstacles.
Like most Motobilt parts, this was developed from real fabrication experience. Builders needed rocker protection that could handle abuse but still be practical on a rig that sees regular use. This design keeps the rocker tight to the body, adds usable function, and works with other Hatchet components to support a complete Jeep YJ build.

What does rocker armor with a step do on a Jeep YJ?

Which rocker do I need, with or without the fender notch?
If you are running Motobilt Hatchet highline fenders or flare setups that require clearance at the front of the rocker, you will need the version with the fender notch. This allows the rocker to fit cleanly around the fender structure. If you are not running those components, the standard version without the notch provides full-length protection and a cleaner body line.
Is this required for a stretch build?
When running Hatchet 2 inch stretch corner guards, rocker protection becomes important because the body sees more contact on obstacles.
Will this work with factory fender flares?
No. This rocker armor is designed to work with Motobilt Hatchet fenders and corner guards.
