The lower rocker panels on a Jeep YJ take abuse fast on the trail. Rocks, ledges, and tight obstacles tend to find sheet metal first, and the factory rocker area was never designed for serious rock crawling. Builders have been doing boatside conversions for years for one reason. More clearance and less body hanging on obstacles.
The simplest way to protect vulnerable factory rocker panels is to eliminate them. This boatside rocker armor kit replaces the lower rocker section with a high-clearance armor system that gains approximately 3-3/4 inches of vertical rocker clearance and roughly 3-3/8 inches of horizontal clearance per side. That extra clearance matters when sliding over rocks or working through technical terrain.
What makes this system different is how the installation is designed. One of the biggest hurdles with a boatside conversion is knowing where to cut and how to get a clean, straight result. This kit includes a pair of steel cutting guides that remove the guesswork. Using the supplied guides and detailed instructions, builders can mark the cut lines accurately and complete the conversion with confidence.
The outer rocker armor is built from 3/16-inch high-strength steel and uses countersunk hardware for a smooth outer surface with no exposed bolt heads to hang on obstacles or take damage. End caps are included and can be welded on if desired. Interior floor closeout panels are also included to cover the trimmed area and help finish the interior, with the option to rivet or weld them in place.
This system also includes bolt plates designed to tie the stretched rocker armor into Motobilt stretched corner armor panels for added integration on larger builds.
Unlike some boatside systems, this design does not tie into the frame. That means it works whether you run no body lift or different body lift heights, without frame-mounted constraints. It stays independent of the frame and sits above the body mounts, giving builders more flexibility in chassis setup.
Built by people who understand fabrication and rock crawling, this is not just rocker protection. It is a true clearance and body protection upgrade for serious YJ builds.
