On a 4-door Jeep JKU, the rear doors are usually an afterthought until you start pulling the front doors off for trail use. At that point, the rear full doors feel bulky, limit visibility for passengers, and do not match the open feel of the front of the Jeep. Running without rear doors is not always practical, especially if you carry passengers or gear.
The factory rear door setup was never designed to balance open-air driving with structure and usability. Most aftermarket options focus on the front doors, leaving the rear as either untouched or poorly matched.
These Motobilt rear aluminum half doors are designed specifically for the rear of a Jeep JKU 4-door to match the function and feel of a proper half door setup. They are built as complete door assemblies, not just outer skins. The double wall construction maintains factory door thickness while adding strength and usable storage inside the door.
The interior panel gives the rear doors a finished look and adds functional storage space, which is useful on longer trail rides where interior space is limited. This design keeps the rear of the Jeep practical while still opening up visibility and airflow.
Each door uses automotive grade latches with adjustable cables for both interior and exterior operation. The aluminum construction keeps weight down, making these easier to remove and install compared to factory rear doors.
For builders looking to maintain flexibility, aftermarket adapter kits are available that allow upper door sections or soft uppers to be used with these rear half doors. This gives you the option to run open on the trail and still add coverage when needed.
Preparation and Installation Guide for Your Jeep JK 1/2 Doors
Our 1/2 doors are crafted from high-quality aluminum and shipped in bare metal. To achieve the best possible finish and ensure a flawless fit, we recommend the following procedure:
Initial Fitting: Before painting, assemble all components to ensure they fit perfectly on your Jeep JK. This step is crucial to avoid adjustments post-painting that could damage the finish.
Disassembly and Cleaning: Once you confirm the fit, disassemble and thoroughly clean all parts to prepare them for painting.
Professional Painting: For a superior and durable finish, we advise having the door parts professionally prepared and painted by a reputable auto body shop. This ensures the paint is perfectly matched and applied evenly.
Final Assembly: After painting, reassemble the parts for the final installation. This process ensures all components align correctly and maintain their pristine condition.
By following these steps, you can enhance the aesthetics and functionality of your Jeep JL with confidence that the finish and fit are of the highest quality.
