Product Description
Stretching the rear axle on a Jeep YJ requires more than simply relocating suspension components. Once the axle is moved back 6 inches, the factory rear body becomes a limiting factor for tire clearance, suspension travel, and body protection. Builders often find themselves modifying the rear corners to accommodate larger tires and create the clearance needed for serious off-road use.
The Motobilt 6" Stretch Corner Armor with Recessed Tail Light Mounts is designed specifically for Jeep YJ builders moving the rear axle back 6 inches. These corners provide protection for the modified rear body while creating a clean, finished appearance for stretched wheelbase builds. The design complements the body modifications commonly required during a wheelbase stretch and helps protect the rear corners from rocks, obstacles, and trail abuse.
Constructed from 3/16-inch 5052 aluminum, these corners provide substantial protection while reducing weight compared to traditional steel armor. For builders focused on keeping vehicle weight under control without sacrificing durability, aluminum armor offers an excellent balance of strength, corrosion resistance, and weight savings. The armor reinforces vulnerable rear body sections while complementing the modifications commonly found on serious trail rigs.
Builders pushing a stretched Jeep YJ into serious trail use quickly discover that factory rear tail lights are vulnerable once larger tires, suspension upgrades, and aggressive departure angles become part of the build. Rear corners are frequently dragged across rocks and obstacles during rock crawling, making exposed factory lighting susceptible to damage.
The Motobilt 6" Stretch Corner Armor is designed around a fully recessed tail light system that helps protect the lighting deep inside the armor structure rather than leaving it exposed on the outside of the body. Internal mounting brackets position the lights safely within the corner armor while outer trim rings create a clean finished appearance that complements the overall build.
These corners are specifically designed around the Baja Designs S2 auxiliary light platform. The compact S2 package allows auxiliary lighting to be integrated directly into the corner armor while maintaining a protected rear lighting solution for stretched Jeep YJ builds. The recessed design creates a clean appearance while helping protect the lights from trail damage.
The corners are also designed around a drop tailgate configuration and pair with the Motobilt MB1168 Tailgate. Together, these components create a cohesive rear body package for builders modifying their Jeep beyond factory limitations.
Like many Motobilt products, these corners were developed from real fabrication experience. Builders stretching wheelbases, increasing tire size, and modifying suspension systems often discover that factory sheet metal quickly becomes a limitation. These corners solve that problem while integrating cleanly with the rest of the build. They pair perfectly with the Motobilt MB1231 series rocker guards, allowing builders to create a complete armor package from the rocker panels to the rear corners.
Tail lights are sold separately. Motobilt recommends Tail Light Kit MB6504. Baja Designs S2 auxiliary lights are not included and must be purchased separately.
Designed and manufactured in the USA, the Motobilt 6" Stretch Corner Armor is built for fabricators and off-road enthusiasts creating capable Jeep YJ builds for serious trail use.
