What are competition cut corner guards on a Jeep TJ?
Competition cut corner guards are designed to improve rear tire clearance and departure angle by trimming the lower rear corner section of the Jeep TJ tub. This allows the body to clear larger tires and trail obstacles more effectively during rock crawling and high-articulation suspension movement.
Do the MB1051 corner guards require cutting the Jeep tub?
Yes. These corners require cutting the factory rear tub corners to match the competition cut profile. They are designed for builders comfortable with fabrication and permanent body modification.
Why are competition cut corners popular for rock crawling?
Competition cut corners help reduce rear body contact on steep obstacles and allow the Jeep to move through terrain with less interference from the rear tub corners. This is especially important on builds with larger tires and increased suspension travel.
What rocker guards work with these corners?
These corners are designed to work with the following Motobilt rocker guards:
- MB1054 Comp/Stretch Rocker Guards
- MB1054-S Comp/Stretch Rocker Guards with Step
- MB1136 Boat Side Rocker Guards
Does the rear body mount get removed?
Yes. The rear body mount does get removed during installation. Motobilt recommends tying the roll cage at the upper C-pillar into the frame to help support the body structure once the mount has been removed.
