Which rocker armor do I need, with or without the fender notch?
If you are running Motobilt Hatchet highline fenders or specific flare setups that require clearance at the front of the rocker, you will need the version with the fender notch. This notch allows the rocker armor to fit cleanly around the fender structure without interference. If you are not running those fenders or your build does not require that clearance, the standard version without the notch will provide full-length protection and a cleaner edge along the body.
What does rocker armor do on a Jeep YJ?
Rocker armor protects the sheet metal below the doors from trail damage. On a Jeep YJ, this area takes direct hits when sliding over rocks or obstacles, and armor prevents body damage.
Why run a high clearance rocker without a step?
A no-step design keeps the rocker tight to the body, which improves ground clearance and reduces the chance of getting hung up on obstacles during rock crawling.
Is this required for a stretch build?
When running a 2 inch stretch with corner guards, rocker protection becomes more important because the vehicle is used harder and sees more obstacle contact.
Will this work with factory fender flares?
No. This rocker armor is designed to work with Motobilt Hatchet fenders and corner guards, not factory flares.
Does this integrate with other Motobilt systems?
Yes. It is designed to work with Hatchet corner guards, highline fenders, and flare systems to create a consistent high-clearance body setup.
