Product Description
When you're working a Jeep JLU through rocks, ledges, and tight obstacles, the rocker panels are one of the first areas to take a hit. Body-mounted rocker guards can transfer those impacts into the sheet metal and body mounts. The Motobilt MB1158 Frame Mounted Rocker Guards are designed to transfer trail impacts directly into the frame instead of relying on the Jeep body to absorb the load.
Designed for the 2018-current Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited (JLU) 4-door, these rock sliders weld directly to the frame rails. The frame mounts are fabricated from 3/16" laser-cut and CNC-formed steel plate, creating boxed mounting structures that distribute loads across a larger section of the frame. Compared to conventional tubing mounts and gussets, the formed brackets provide approximately four times the mounting surface area at the frame and three times the attachment surface area at the slider tubing.
The slider itself is constructed from 2" DOM steel tubing, with 3/16" laser-cut and formed steel end caps and center bracing. This combination provides a rigid barrier between the Jeep body and trail obstacles. The frame-mounted construction also allows the rock sliders to serve as Hi-Lift jack points when properly installed.
Motobilt builds these JLU rock sliders completely welded and ready for installation. They ship in bare steel and require welding to the frame, followed by painting or coating to protect the exposed metal.
For additional body protection, these sliders pair with the Motobilt Rocker Armor for Jeep JLU. Together, the frame-mounted sliders and body cladding help protect the lower body when navigating rocks, ledges, and other trail obstacles.

Installation Notes
The MB1158 rocker guards require welding directly to the frame rails. Installation should be performed by a qualified welder or fabricator familiar with vehicle frame construction.
Test fit both sliders and verify positioning before final welding. If the rock sliders will be powder coated before installation, identify and mask the weld areas or remove the coating where welding is required. After welding, clean and paint all exposed metal, including the welded attachment areas.
Always disconnect the vehicle battery cables before welding.
Check rear suspension link brackets and frame clearance before installation. Rear long-arm suspension systems with brackets positioned outside the frame rails may interfere with the rocker guard mounting brackets. For those configurations, see MB1258 for long-arm suspension applications.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between frame-mounted and body-mounted rock sliders on a Jeep JLU?
Frame-mounted rock sliders attach directly to the vehicle frame rather than relying on body sheet metal or body mounts. The MB1158 uses welded, boxed steel mounting brackets to transfer trail impacts into the frame and distribute those loads across a larger attachment area.
Can I use the MB1158 rock sliders as Hi-Lift jack points?
Yes. The frame-mounted design allows the rock sliders to be used as Hi-Lift jack points when properly welded and installed. Always confirm that the jack is securely positioned and follow appropriate vehicle lifting precautions.
Will these rock sliders work with a long-arm suspension on my Jeep JLU?
Not all long-arm suspensions are compatible. Rear long-arm systems with mounting brackets located outside the frame rails may interfere with the MB1158 mounting brackets. Motobilt offers MB1258 for those applications.
Do the MB1158 rock sliders require welding?
Yes. These are weld-on frame-mounted rocker guards, not bolt-on body-mounted sliders. The brackets arrive fully welded to the slider assembly, but installation requires welding the mounts to the Jeep frame.
Do these JLU rock sliders come powder coated?
No. They ship in bare steel and require paint or another protective coating. Motobilt does not offer powder coating for this product. Any coating must be removed from the frame attachment weld areas before installation, and those areas must be protected after welding.
