Once a Jeep TJ or LJ build moves into stretched wheelbase territory, the factory fuel tank becomes a major obstacle. The stock tank location limits rear axle placement, interferes with suspension travel, and makes it difficult to package larger axles and link systems under the Jeep. Builders trying to stretch the wheelbase quickly run out of room unless the fuel system is addressed.

The Motobilt Stretched TJ Fuel Cell is designed to solve that problem while keeping the tank mounted underneath the vehicle. This system allows up to 6 inches of rear wheelbase stretch depending on axle choice, giving builders the room needed for proper suspension geometry and axle placement. It installs in the factory tank location, so it works whether you are stretching the Jeep or simply upgrading the fuel system for better durability and packaging.

The tank is a 14.5 gallon aluminum fuel cell built from 1/8 inch thick aluminum, CNC cut, formed, and TIG welded for strength and long-term reliability. The fill and vent tubes are CNC machined and positioned to work with factory-style routing using 1997-2002 TJ filler and vent hoses. The top of the tank includes a rollover valve and an 8AN vent fitting for proper fuel system ventilation. A machined mounting location is built into the tank to accept a 2005-2006 TJ fuel pump, secured with a steel clamping ring and hardware.

The fuel cell is protected by a fully welded 3/16 inch steel skid plate that mounts directly to the factory TJ frame. Steel hold-down straps secure the tank to the skid, creating a strong and protected system designed for rock crawling and hard trail use. This setup is built for builders who want to stretch their TJ the right way without giving up a protected underbody fuel system.

Notes

Test fit all components before final paint or powder coat.
Use only a 2005-2006 TJ fuel pump. Earlier pumps are not compatible.
2004 and earlier TJ models require a pigtail adapter to run the newer fuel pump.
Fuel pump seal (Mopar #55366298AA) is required but not included.
Use 1997-2002 TJ fuel filler hose and vent tube for proper fitment.
When routing the vent hose from the rollover valve, loop the hose around the tank before exiting underneath the Jeep.
If running EVAP, tie the vent line into that system.
