Builders who spend time wheeling a Jeep TJ know rear tail lights rarely survive long once the Jeep starts seeing real trail use. Factory tail lights sit exposed on the rear corners where they are vulnerable to rocks, trees, ledges, and body damage during tight trail maneuvers and rock crawling. Once larger tires, increased suspension travel, and aggressive departure angles are added to the build, protecting rear lighting becomes a real concern.
The Motobilt Aluminum Corner Armor for the Jeep Wrangler TJ was designed around a fully recessed tail light system that tucks the lights safely inside the corner armor structure. Instead of mounting exposed lights on the outside of the body, these corners use internal mounting brackets that position the lights deep inside the armor for maximum protection on the trail. An outer trim ring finishes the opening and gives the corners a clean appearance similar to the Motobilt Bobbed Bed and El Jefe 15-inch stretch corner designs.
These corners are designed specifically around the Baja Designs S2 auxiliary light platform rather than the larger Squadron lights used on larger stretch corner systems. Using the smaller S2 light package allows this recessed tail light system to fit properly within the dimensions of a factory-length Jeep TJ tub without extensive body modifications. Builders wanting protected rear lighting on a standard TJ body now have a clean solution that integrates properly into the corner armor itself.
The rear passenger side panel also eliminates factory tailgate hinge cutouts for builders running a drop down tailgate conversion. This creates a cleaner body profile once the factory swing gate hardware has been removed.
Constructed from 5052 aluminum, these corners help reduce overall vehicle weight while still reinforcing vulnerable rear body sections for serious off-road use. The armor follows the TJ body lines closely and integrates cleanly into trail-focused builds that prioritize both protection and weight savings.
Like many Motobilt products, these corners were developed from real fabrication experience and understanding how Jeep builds evolve over time.
Tail lights and Baja Designs S2 auxiliary lights are sold separately. Motobilt recommends tail light kit part number MB6504.
