Trying to fit 40 inch tires on a Jeep JL, JLU, or JT quickly exposes the limitations of the factory inner fenders. The stock inner fenders take up valuable space in the wheel well, limiting uptravel and forcing you to either raise the vehicle higher than you want or deal with tire interference.
This becomes even more of an issue on factory-style suspension systems where shock placement and travel are fixed.
The Motobilt MB1243 front inner fender kit is designed specifically to solve that problem while retaining a factory-style suspension layout.
This version is built to work with factory shock configurations, including systems like the Jeep Gladiator Mojave suspension package. It allows builders to gain additional tire clearance and improve usable wheel well space without requiring a coilover conversion.
Instead of forcing a suspension change to fit larger tires, this system creates the clearance needed within the constraints of a factory-style setup.
The high clearance design replaces the bulky factory inner fenders and opens up space in the wheel well, allowing for improved suspension travel and better fitment of 40 inch tires.
Motobilt offers multiple versions of this inner fender system because different suspension setups require different clearances. This MB1243 version is intended for factory-style suspension builds, making it the correct choice for builders who want to run larger tires without converting to coilovers.
All components are built from formed aluminum and designed to match the contours of the Jeep JL, JLU, and JT engine bay while maintaining compatibility with factory-style suspension components.
Choosing the Correct Inner Fender Version
Not all inner fender kits are the same.
This MB1243 version is designed for:
- Factory-style suspension systems
- Factory shock placement
- Jeep Gladiator Mojave suspension package
If you are running or planning:
- Coilovers
- Custom shock towers
- Long travel suspension
You will need a different version of this system designed for those setups.
40 Inch Tire Clearance for Factory Suspension JL / JLU / JT
If you are trying to fit 40s while keeping a factory-style suspension, clearance becomes the limiting factor.
This kit allows you to:
- Gain additional wheel well clearance
- Improve uptravel without excessive lift
- Fit 40 inch tires more effectively
- Maintain factory-style shock configuration
